Fenelon Township Public School faces off against Kawartha Lakes OPP

On March 7, the Fenelon Township Public School (FTPS) Grade 7/8 volleyball teams played against a team of Kawartha Lakes Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers.

The Intermediate Girls Volleyball Team went head-to-head with the officers first, playing two back-to-back games, winning both. The Intermediate Boys Team then played their two games, where they won one game and lost the other. The teams then decided to mix it up and play a co-ed game of Grade 8s against the OPP. Both teams fought until the end, but the FTPS team took home the win!

“The students had an awesome time playing against the police officers. This was everything we thought it would be,” said FTPS principal, Greg Arkwright. “Our students were able to have positive interactions with our local police officers while playing some fun-filled, competitive games of volleyball. It was a great way of having the police officers and our students make positive connections.”

This initiative was the first of its kind for the school.

Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) Facility Services staff, Technology Services staff, and school administrators will continue to monitor infrastructure and power/internet/network outages at individual school locations over the weekend.

Families can expect communications from the Board on Sunday evening regarding any school closures and/or transportation for Monday, April 7.

We are incredibly thankful for the commitment and resilience of all staff, students, and their families this past week in dealing with the widespread damage and disruption across the Board.

Please know that our school staff remain committed to supporting families. Parents/guardians are encouraged to reach out to their school principal for assistance, if needed.
