On October 25, Gravenhurst High School (GHS), in partnership with the Town of Gravenhurst, hosted a Spooktacular haunted house to raise money for local food banks.
The event has been held annually for the past 30 years at the Gravenhurst Opera House, but unfortunately wasn’t about to take place the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, the school aimed for the return to be the best yet!
The event involved about 35 students from across all grade levels who planned the event from start to finish, including choosing a theme, the development and creation of each staged room, and the promotion of the overall event. The whole school community was invited to Spooktacular for free, with attendees encouraged to donate non-perishable food items. The attraction saw 10 unique rooms, with three different levels of scares, from beginner to intermediate.
In total, over 200 people attended the event, raising about $900 worth of food, which was donated to Gravenhurst Against Poverty, who will combine the donations with fresh food and distribute hampers throughout the community.
Well done, GHS!
