Scott Young Public School hosts Mental Wellness Fair

On November 21, the Scott Young Public School (SYPS) Safe and Accepting Schools Team hosted the first-ever Mental Wellness Fair that focused on self regulation, mental health learning, and anti-bullying.

Throughout the evening, which took place during the school’s Student Conference Night, each classroom had a display that showcased strategies to support mental wellness and anti-bullying through student work.

Trillium Lakelands District School Board mental health counsellors, Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes, and Five Counties Children’s Centre were also present to provide resources.

“Parents expressed that they were intrigued by the learning around mental wellness and how their children could identify every day strategies to help themselves with self regulation,” said SYPS principal, Jennifer Whiteway.

December 12 inclement weather day – City of Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton, and Muskoka

Due to inclement weather with heavy snow fall, poor visibility, and road conditions, transportation to schools is not operating in the City of Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton, and Muskoka today, Thursday, December 12. Schools remain open and learning opportunities will continue for students who are able to safely attend in-person.

Parents/guardians are responsible for transportation of their student(s) to and from school on inclement weather days. Drop-off and pick-up must occur in alignment with the regular school day start and end times.

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school.
